What Do Severe Pain And Inflammation In The Lower Leg Indicate?

i have severe lower leg pain and inflamation. also have trouble swallowing. was diagnosed with lupus at young age i am 65 yrs old. was told this is arthritis in hips and need surgery however i am barely able to walk but do not believe it is arthritis was told possible ms is that a possiblity

Hello and welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

No, I don't think it is due to MS (multiple sclerosis).
Lupus can recur in old age especially after 60 years of age.
And lupus can cause arthritis and esophageal motility disorder.
This can lead to dysphagia (difficulty in swallowing).
So better to consult rheumatologist and discuss about relapse of lupus.
You will need immunosuppressive drugs like azathioprine, steroids etc.
