Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am a 70 yr old male with controlled a-fib and no other problems. For the past few days, I have experienced periodic small spasms in the center to lower part of my chest. They last only a fraction of a second and don t happen all the time. They feel like a heartbeat but are not. No other symptoms. What could be causing this?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advise.
Chest spasms can be caused by different conditions from muscular spasms to more important causes like heart ischemia. It is very likely that if they happen while you are not exercising but at rest they are from muscular spasms but due to your a-fib history and your age it might be safer to have a visit with your doctor and an ECG to rule out heart problems first.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Kind regards, Antoneta Zotaj, MD
