What Do Suspicious Nodules In The Lungs On A PET Scan Report Suggest?

My husband is waiting for results of a PET scan today. He was diagnosed with suspicious nodules in his lungs. He had a brunt force trauma injury to his chest from a car accident in 2000 that resulted in loss of his spleen and 17 fractured ribs.A CT scan last weekend found two acute fractured ribs in 11 and 12 which led to finding nodules. Dr. Said if this is lung cancer then it is stage 4 and inoperable but leans towards non cancerous nodules. What is your opinion? Thank you.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Final opinion about the nature of the nodule is based on biopsy. Two options are available, either if it's near to lung airways, then through bronchoscopy and if lateral, VATs may be needed. But PET scan can reveal any signs of tumor else where or to rule out spread as well as suspect malignancy.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Wishing you a speedy recovery.

Regards,
Dr. Saddiq Ulabidin, General & Family Physician
