What Do Swelling And Inflammation On The Upper Lip Indicate?

My son had a dental abscess on the top right of his gum, he was prescribed clyndamicin since he is allergic to amoxicillin. The abscess went away, but his upper left lip is swollen, red, and theres a little bump. What could this be? He isnt complaining of pain, but is it serious? Im going to schedule an appointment with his doctor on Monday.

Hello,

Your son has symptoms of swelling and inflammation on the upper lip which seems to be due to an allergic reaction. Need not to worry. I would suggest you to avoid licking your lips and take anti allergic medication such as Cetirizine. Give diet rich in multivitamins. Avoid licking and pricking lips. Apply petroleum jelly on lips and drink plenty of water. Visit oral and maxillofacial surgeon once and get it examined if symptoms keep on persisting, and get it examined and start treatment after proper prescription.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Harry Maheshwari
