What Do Swelling And Pain In The Lower Right Leg Indicate?

Doctor, My husband has recently developed swelling and pain at the bottom of his right foot(the flat service) with irritating pain when you touch the area affected, he has a great deal of pain. Is this gout or some other thing? My husband is 80 years old, still active throughout the day; walking out doors, has good eating habits, but tends to overuse too much salt in his food, and sleeps well at night, getting up to 8 hours of sleep. But these new symptoms seem to be bothering his over all attitude. What do you recommend?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

If it is foot I would recommend an X-ray because maybe some trivial trauma unnoticed would have caused it. As you say he is very active also. If there is any hairline fracture or ligament tear of something then we can get to know. For now, he can be treated symptomatically. Ask him to take Ibuprofen and Diclofenac tablets for 3-5 days. He will have some relief. Get X-ray reports to us.

Hope this information helps you sort out your problems. If you feel its helpful kindly give me user thanks vote.
Happy health!
Regards,
Dr. Archana
