What Do Swelling And Tingling In The Left Arm Indicate?

My daughter gets tingling in her left arm along with tingling & swelling of her tongue and lips accompanied by a headache. What could cause this and what type of dr do we see? She is 15. This has happened several times. We thought it was an allergic reaction to something but now not so sure.

Hello and welcome,

Swelling in the tongue/lips and hand with tingling sensation is highly likely angioedema.
Angieodema is a kind of allergic reaction that usually affects lips and tongue, genitalia, hands, or feet. Angioedema is caused by a variety of factors and it can be hereditary, idiopathic or caused by certain medicines (NSAIDs, ACE inhibitors) and etc. Identifying the mechanism of angioedema is important in determining appropriate investigations and treatment.
Please, take your daughter to allergy/immunology specialist. A doctor may order certain tests to confirm the disease and identify underlying mechanism.

I hope the above information will be helpful for you. Please, feel free to ask me if there is anything else you need to know.

Thank you,
Malik Amonov MD
