What Do Tender Bumps After Abscess Draining Indicate?
I had an abscess drained 2 days ago in the ER. I had packing in it and was told to take it out today, so I did. I am on painkillers and an antibiotic and my pain is significantly less than before the procedure, but I still have a very tender bump and some parts are similar to the pain before. Is it possible it was not drained properly?
I have gone through your query and can understand your concern..
As per your complain a tender bump at the site of a drained abscess seems to be due to inflammation and granulation at the site of infection that led to formation of abscess.. As it is just 2 days you need not to worry as gradually when the infection will subside the bump as well as pain will resolve..
I would however suggest you to continue taking antibiotics and anti-inflammatory painkillers advised to you.. Clean the area with an antiseptic solution, irrigate it using antiseptic solution and apply triple antibiotic ointment over it.. You should also consult your treating surgeon and get evaluated to check for whether re-packing is needed or not..
Avoid excess water exposure and dust exposure to the area to prevent exaggeration of infection..
Hope this information helps..
