What Do These Fasting And Postprandial Blood Sugar Values Indicate?

i am taking Metformin 1000mg and Glimepride 2mg twice a day for the last 3 years.My fasting still remains high at 150 to 160 and PP at 190 to 210.Recently I got my blood sugar done,which is 190 at fasting and 290 at PP.HbAc1 is 8,2.What should be my line of treatment. Mridula(F) 62yrs

Welcome to healthcaremagic.com It would seem to me that you need to have some short acting with insulin with your meals at this time. However, the target HgbA1c is below 7.0 ideally, you are not too far, and i wonder if a more stringent diet and exercise will suffice. Research has also been shown that having too strict blood sugar control for the elderly is more deleterious. I would bring up these points without doctor next time you meet and reach an agreement. Healthcare is always about reaching a meaningful manageable collaboration with your physician, so do not be scared to ask questions and present your blood sugar logs at every visit and ask him what can be done differently.
