Hi, my mother aged 67, is having a bad cough for last 3weeks mainly when she lay down on bed. As she is unable to sleep from last 2 weeks on bed. Medical reports are ESR 100 TLC n dlc are on higher side. Urune infection with 20-30 pus cells n 75 protein. Chest xray report states patchy inhomogeneous opacity seen in left, lower zone n infective. FKW fibrotic strands in lower zone. Rest all are normal. Is this a symptom of tuberculosis. Regards KAPIL

Hello,

None of the indexes you mention is specific for tuberculosis. This means that other conditions can cause similar findings as well.
If tuberculosis is considered some specific tests are conducted and the most important ones are the culture of the sputum (takes weeks) and identification of the BCG bacteria in an acid-fast stain of the sputum (is a fast test).

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
