What Do These Results From Lower Respiratory Tract Culture Indicate?
What does greater than 10 epithelial cells present per log scant WBC s. Heavy mixed bacterial flora present no predominate organism Less than or equal to 10 squamous epithelium cells per load power filled indicates adequate sputum collection this was done by lower respiratory tract culture What does this mean
As per my clinical experience, as there are more than 10 squamous epithelial cells per high power field of the sputum sample it indicates best anatomical location of the specimen. However, as there is no predominant organism isolated, it indicates possible presence of commensal organisms only rather than any other suspicious pathological bugs.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
