What Do These Rhythm Of Pulse Rate Indicate?

Thank you, I take manual vitals in a medical office and have two questions. 1: taking the pulse of a client last week I counted 76 beats per minute and was told afterwards that she had a pacemaker set at 70. Did I err? I charted my number because that s what I got. 2: While doing a manual BP this morning I could hear rhythmic systolic sounds from 150 to 140, but below 140 they became MUCH more pronounced in volume and continued down to 72mmHg. The sounds I was hearing at 140 to 150 were not aberrations, they were rhythmic heart beats that were synchronous with the later sounds that I heard for the rest of the reading. How do I interpret this? I m a CNA1 we didn t go into so much detail in our training

Hello There

After going through your medical query I understand your concern and I would like to tell you that both times you were right. 70 can be minimum rate set on that pacemaker but patient can have heart rate more than 70. The first sound heard while taking blood pressure is your first reading weather that is feeble or more voluminous.

Hopefully this information will guide you properly.

Kind Regards
Dr Bhanu Partap
