Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Do These Thyroid Test Results For Weight Gain And Swelling In Knees Indicate?
my FT4 is 11.1 and my Thyroperoxidase is at 81. I have gained 30 pounds in 6 months and am an athlete who can barely train these days. My skin is dry and I have lost most of my eyebrows. I do not feel like my usual self. There are days when I feel like walking is too hard, knees swell as do my caves and the knees are extremely painful - hard to sleep. Hands and feet usually cold.
Based on the history you have shared, your symptoms suggest mostly to be low functioning thyroid. It would have been better if you had shared your TSH too.
It can be partially treated hypothyroidism pictures too. However, increased thyroperoxidase antibodies suggest the autoimmune as the cause of thyroid disease; which can again present both as hypo or hyperthyroidism pictures like in Hashimoto's or graves diseases respectively.
So, it's better to get an endocrinologist review and get your thyroid treatment adjusted with oral levothyroxine.
A thyroid scan to rule out any cold nodule may also be needed. Calcium and vitamin D3 supplements may also be needed along.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Saddiq Ulabidin, General & Family Physician
