What Do Tremors In The Hands Indicate?

Over the past 8 months or so I have developed a shaking in my hands which makes it difficult typing because my hands want to keep hitting the keyboard. I also have a shaking in my knees which causes me to almost fall unless I stop and catch myself. It is worse in the morning when I wake up and about a week ago I did fall when getting out of bed. I have also noticed a catch to my voice.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Depending upon age causes of tremors may differ. In a young age, it probably is due to vitamin B12 deficiency. Please check it at a pathology laboratory. In case of deficiency start B12 injections for one week daily, then weekly for one month, then monthly for four months and, then six monthly.

In older age it could be due to parkinsonism, symptoms of it includes intentional tremors (tremors during work affecting hand or leg muscles), muscle rigidity as well as gate change. Consult a physician for it who will start treatment - levodopa plus carbidopa in low dose and will increase according to the response.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Hiren Hirpara
