What Do Uncontrolled Tremors In An Elderly Person Indicate?

What is causing my 76 year old father to suddenly start having uncontrollable shaking/tremors and loss of control all together and he falls down every time it happens? This started prior to his current chemo/radiation treatment. He has copd and chf. It s getting worse now it happened 3 times this afternoon within 3 hours.

Oncologist 's  Response
Hi,

The true cause of essential tremor is still not understood, but it is thought that the abnormal electrical brain activity that causes tremor is processed through the thalamus. The thalamus is a structure deep in the brain that coordinates and controls muscle activity.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Esmeralda Sera,
