What Do Visible Veins On The Chest And Shoulders Indicate?

I’ve always had blue veins that were slightly visible. Just recently they have covered my breast, chest and my shoulders nearly to bicep. Some location, specifically near the shoulders looks bruised. They are not bulging but rather a “neon blue”. My husband even felt the need to say he has noticed the change. Is this ok or worrisome? Thank you Shannon Hall

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

If your body is slim and skin is fair than this is possible because veins are located superficially with blood flow of deoxygenated blood so it's look bluish in color if you don't have any symptom you should not worry about it. It could be normal for you. One condition called cirrhosis of liver with portal hypertension is where such thing also found. But I don't think you have it.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Bhadresh Lakhani
