What Do White Scabs On The Scalp Indicate?

I have been about 4-5 very small hard white scabs on my scalp. They are the size of the letter O on your cell key pad. I can pick them out, with my nail. There is no pain, There is nothing seeping or oozing when I remove them. They keep coming back in the same 4-5 areas. What do you think it could be?
Can you recommend an over the counter product?

Dermatologist 's  Response
Hi,

You seem to have either Seborrheic dermatitis or Scslp psoriasis. They present as itchy, scaly patches on the scalp.

The scale can be picked off with nail revealing an underlying red, oozy skin but the scale soon forms again.

I suggest you to use an antifungal shampoo e.g a ketoconazole based shampoo, either daily or on every alternate days. Both seborrheic dermatitis and scalp psoriasis are steroid responsive.

Therefore in addition to the shampoo I suggest you to use a topical steroid lotion e.g mometasone furoate 0.1% lotion for overnight scalp application.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
