What Do White Stringy Discharge And Spotting After Birth Control Shot Indicate?

I have been on the birth control shot for over a month now, Ifirst started spotting and then having a regular pperiodbut now iit s on and off. This morning iI went to the bathroom and wiped and there was this stringy white thing, it s notthat big but, it smells weird and it keeps coming out, what could it be?

Hello,

Spotting is natural after taking birth control shots. It will get fine in 4-6 weeks once the body gets adjusted with the hormonal changes of the body. Birth control shots interferes with the ovulation, hence you will not get the mid cycle ovulation discharge that is of egg white consistency though birth control shots increase thick white vaginal discharge with mild or no odor. Since you are having stringy white discharge with weird smell it may either be a side effect of the BC shot (a rare condition) but it may be indicative of STD (gonorrhea, etc).

You are suggested to get clinically examined by a gynecologist and get tested for PID, gonorrhea, STD. You will be accordingly treated if reports are positive, When you engage in sex, always use a condom. Get regular STD testing,of your sexual partners, be open minded. If they show signs of infection, avoid any sexual contact with them. The safest way to prevent gonorrhea or other STDs is to avoid multiple partners or abstinence.
