What Do You Mean By Focal Atelectasis In Lower Lungs And Low Density Mass In Upper Liver?
First question: What does it mean when a CT report reads: "Peripheral areas of subpleural density are present in the left lower lungs somewhat triangular in shape likely areas of focal atelectasis?"
Second question: CT report reads: " There is a well-defined low-denisty mass in the upper posterior liver near the confluence of the hepatic veins. This is also seen on prior exam. Some early pooling of contrast in its periphery suggests it likely represents a hemangioma?"
Focal atelectasis means collapse part of lungs that is not properly aerated. It may be due to many reasons like mucus plugs, previous infection, tumour etc.patient has focal atelectasis in left lower lung in peripheral region and small areas doesn't require any treatment.
Hemangioma is common incidental findings in liver and it is abnormal growth of blood vessels. If it is small in size and asymptomatic then it doesn't require any treatment where as large and symptomatic ones may need surgical excision. It is near the confluence of the hepatic veins in upper posterior part of liver. Hope i have answered your query.
