What Do You Suggest For A Continued High Heart Rate After Delivery?

My daughter is 23 years old and was in labor with her first child. Her blood pressure had started getting a little high 4 weeks prior to delivery, but seemed to go back to normal. During labor it elevated to 174/97 and her heart rate was around 127. It remained anywhere from 174/97 to 134/85 through all of labor. She had to have a c-section and during the operation it shot back up to 174/97. After birth it still is remaining high. They have her on medication but it doesnt seem to be helping

Hello!
Thanks for your query.
Post partum hypertension is common. Blood pressure typically rises after delivery over the first five days. Thus women who experienced hypertension during pregnancy may be normotensive immediately after the birth, but then become hypertensive again in the first postnatal week.
She need to treat and first line agent is atenolol, plus nifedipine or an ACE inhibitor if another agent is required.
Diuretics, however, are usually avoided if the woman wishes to breast feed because of increased thirst.
Take care of her
