Dear Sir, Good morning, actually my wife is pregnant now (18 weeks).Yesterday doctors had Anomaly scan then result shown as IMPRESSION: variable presentation with bilateral choroid plexus cyst & single tiny echogenic focus seen in the left ventricle. so doctor advised to do Amniocentis(30ml fluid aspirated and sent for cultural & fish 13,18 &21. So iam waiting for result to 3- weeks. Now iam getting too much worry about the result. Can you please tell me that we are going in right path , also please explain me about the Bilateral cyst & single tiny echogenic.. is it will dis -appear normally. Also iam getting confusion that what kind of problem my baby is having Bilateral cyst ? single tiny echogenic ? or down syndrome? if down syndrome came negative result then what about Bilateral cyst and single tiny echogenic, is there treatment for cyst and echogenic? thanks
Hello, The choroid plexus cysts usually disappear on their own, so I would not worry about them. Some people have them as adults with no consequence. The echogenic focus in the left ventricle can be a normal finding, but is also seen in children with Down syndrome. This suggests there may be a problem, but does not confirm it. So the amniocentesis is the right thing to do. I would wait for the amniocentesis result and if it is normal, continue with your regular antenatal screening ultrasounds. If abnormal, the obstetrician will advise you on what to do next.
