What Does 22% Head Defects In Semen Analysis Mean?
I just received my husband's semen analysis and wanted to know if anyone here can please interpret the results. Total volume: 6.0 Viscosity: normal Liquification complete Agglutination: not seen Ph: 8.1 Motility: 51% forward progression: 2+ total count: 54.9 mil/ml Round cells: 1 mil/ml Morph ideal: 26% head defects: 22% neck defects: 49% tail defects: 3%
Your husband's report suggests decreased sperm motility. Normally sperm motility should be at least 55%.His findings indicate 51% motility,so it is decreased.
54.9 millions/ml sperm count is normal.Normally sperm count should be at least 20 millions/ml.
Morphology of sperms are also normal.Only 16% sperms with normal morphology is required for normal fertilization.
Other findings like viscosity, liquefaction time etc are normal.
Your husband should do exercise and should take nutritious food.If low motility and infertility persists then assisted fertilization techniques like IUI can be considered. He also need few investigations like routine hemogram, random blood sugar, ultrasound of scrotum.Ultrasound is important to exclude any organic cause of infertility.
Wish you all the best. Take Care Dr.Indu Bhushan
