What Does A Posteroncentral Disc Protrusion Is Seen At The L4-L5 Level Indicate?
I have had lower back pain for three months now, and I have constant pins & needles in the legs, and pain in the groin and buttock area. Medication does help a little. Ibuprofen, Co-codamol, Gabapentin. Omeprazole The MRI Report is as follows. A posteroncentral disc protrusion is seen at the L4-L5 level indenting the anterior thecal sac. There appears to be bilateral neural foraminal compromise (more on the right) and stenosis of the spinal canal at this level also being contributed by bilateral facet and ligamentum flavum hypertrophy. A probable hyperintense haemangioma? seen in T11 vertebral body. The lower cord and conus medullaris signal appears to be within normal liits and no featues of archnoiditis seen. Could you please convert to simple english, and wil I need an operation
According to report, you have degenerative disc disease of lumbar spine. Degenerative changes occurs in spine due to aging and development of weakness in annulus fibrosis.
1.At L4-L5 level, there is posteroncentral disc protrusion which is indenting the anterior thecal sac. There is bilateral narrowing of neural foramen (more on the right) and also stenosis of the spinal canal. There is also bilateral facet and ligamentum flavum hypertrophy.
Haemangioma at T11 vertebral body is an incidental finding and it doesn't require any treatment.
Majority of the cases of degenerative spine disease are benefited by physiotherapy,so physiotherapy should be tried first. Surgery should be the last option. There are also medicines like capsule pregabalin available for pain relief.
Treatment can be planned after consultation with neurosurgeon.
