What Does CT Scan As Chronic Lacunar Intractions Suggest?

Hi, can you help me explain the result of my father CT scan.



Impression:



Cronic microvascular periventricula white matter ischemic changes.



Chronic lacunar intractions in right lentiform nucleus, left external capsul, bilateral, frontal corona and left centrum semiovale.

Thanks for writing in.

Chronic microvascular periventricular changes are due to long term decreased blood flow through the small vessels in the brain. This can happen in people with hypertension. diabetes or also as a part of advancing age. Lacunar infarctions are also similar areas of reduced brain supply in the brain usually less than 10 mm in diameter. By itself they are not serious but it can be an alarm for strokes in future. Please consult your neurologist and take prescribed medications regularly.
