What Does DNS With Bony Spur And Deviated Palate Mean?

Hi, I am 31 years old male who is diagnosed with CT Scan to have DNS with a bony spur and deviated palate when I visited to ENT surgeon with a complaint of severe headache. Headache which is mild in the morning n severes with the time, is In frontal portion of the head n has no associated vomiting etc. please advise.

Thanks for writing in.

There are air spaces on each side and above the nose which are called paranasal air sinuses. These are hollow spaces which regulate the temperature of the air that we breathe in and regulate the temperature of the inflowing air. These spaces communicate with the nose through small holes called ostia. When there is block of ostia, then there will be retained secretions in the paranasal sinuses causing infection and leading to headaches. The nose has a central bony partition called septum. If this is curved more towards one side which is called deviation of nasal septum then it blocks air entry through the nose and the ostia leading to more chance of symptoms of sinusitis including headache. Your headache is most likely due to deviation of nasal septum DNS) and the CT scan is showing that. If the DNS is severe then your ENT surgeon will advise surgical correction and this is a standard form of treatment.
