Thank you for the query.
I would like to enquire about your age and whether you are suffering from any comorbidities like Diabetes meliitus or Hypercholesterolemia (dyslipidemia).
Gall bladder sludge is actually a mixture of particulate solids that have precipitated from the bile. It appears white (echogenic) on USG scan. The sludge consists of cholesterol crystals and calcium salts. The clinical course of biliary sludge is variable. In some cases it may reduce and disappear on subsequent USG (specially if there is a precipitating factor like critical illness). However, it may progress to develop gallstones. There may complications like biliary colic, acute choleystitis (inflamed gall bladder) and pancreatitis (inflamed pancreas).
In case one is asymptomatic, observation can be done. If symptoms develop or gallstones develop, surgery (cholecystectomy) is recommended.
The fat content in diet needs to be reduced and carbonated beverages are to be avoided. No specific medications are available for Gall bladder sludge. Certain medications like Ursodeoxycholic acid may be used in gall bladder (dose to be decided only after consulting your physician)
Hope this helps you.
