Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Does A Black Line On The Large Toenail Indicate?
I have a black line below my large toenail. My doctor said it was a fungus and prescribed a laquor that I paint on twice a day. I swim at an indoor pool every day and want to know if this can make it worse and if it is contagious. I m really worried that it might be melanoma. How can you tell the difference?
After going through your query I understand your concern.
I would like to tell you that There are many reasons of black line on the toenail like, infection, vasculitis, nail fungus, lupus etc and as you are already been diagnosed to have a nail fungus then it's not recommend for you to go inside the pool.
Fungal nail infection are caused by various fungal organisms and can occur at any age. Some of contributing factor are sweating heavily, athlete's foot, walking barefoot in damp communal areas, diabetes etc.
Kindly follow the treatment prescribed to you and follow some preventing measure .
Hope to have been helpful.
Kind Regards Dr. Navneet Bansal
