What Does A Bruise On The Left Ankle Indicate?

Hi, my son was diagnosed with a deep bone bruise in his left ankle. Injury occurred two months ago. Is still in some pain. He is seeing a sports medicine specialist. I inquired about a topical medication that could alleviate his pain. I received a GCL cream (Gabapentin) as well as Diclofenac Sodium Gel. Reading up on the creams, neither addresses the issue, nor do they give me the indication that they re to be used for this purpose. Please advise if this is a solution or can contribute to alleviating the pain in my son s ankle. Thank you so much in advance for you advice.

HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

Diclofenac is an NSAID- non steroidal anti inflammatory drug. It works to reduce inflammation due to injury or trauma or arthritis etc.
It reduces the inflammation due to the condition and in that way helps with pain relief.

Gabapentin (oral) was initially produced to help with seizures but it was then found that seizure medication and some psychiatric meds, help with pain particularly either long term pain or nerve related pain.
It is thought that they affect the nerve conduction or perception of the pain.
