What Does A Bump On The Lip Indicate?

I have a bump on my lip that does nothing to me, besides being a blemish. Wondering if it is herpes or something else? It's is slight darker than my lips original color and is more visible at certain times than others, but is always there no matter what.

Hello,

As per your complain it seems that bump of outer lip along with formation of a bump seems to be due to causes like fibrous growth or fibroma, bacterial infection, inflamed sebaceous gland, hemangioma that are present in abundance over the lips while can also be due to allergic reaction. The exact diagnosis can be given only after a through clinical evaluation and investigations like biopsy or fine needle aspiration cytology if required. You should consult an oral Physician and get evaluated and in case of fibroma surgical removal has to be done.

Hemangioma can be treated either with sclerosing agents or surgically. Infection can be treated with antibiotics oral and topical.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Honey Arora
