What Does A Congested Mucosa In Ascending Colon Mean?
I recently had a colonoscopy and congested mucosa was found in the ascending colon. A biopsy was done, but results are not in yet. Just wondering exactly what this might be and mean. In addition, diverticulosis was found in the sigmoid colon. I had and have not had any issues before this. My last colonoscopy was 7 years ago with normal results. I eat very healthy with lots of whole grains, fruits, vegetables, little red meat, good fats, etc. I lost 100 pounds 16 years ago and have kept it off with a few pounds one way or the other. Just wondering before i see my DR for foloow-up as he is new to me and I to him
1. Congestion means there is on going inflammation and swelling and diverticulosis occur when there is weakness of muscle layer in the colon wall.
2. Risk factors to look out for are: increasing age, constipation, low fibre diet and should be managed with high fibre diet, and avoid colonic stimulants.
3. Management will depend after result of biopsy, since asymptomatic divetriculosis does not require any specific treatment while complicated diverticulosis require treatment of complications
