What Does A Dented Bone On The Bottom Of Ribcage Causing Mild Discomfort Suggest?

Hi, I am 32 years old and I just noticed that my left side of the rib cage one bone before the last on the bottom of the cage is dent inward. There is a mild discomfort if pressed on it for a few seconds. My right side of the rib cage, all bones are normal no dents. I am a type 2 diabetic since 2009 but probably undiagnosed few years before 2009. I don t remember anything that could of given me that dent and I am wondering if I should just get it checked out at the clinic in the morning or something? Thank you for your time reading and possibly responding to my question.

Hello,

Your symptoms could be related to local inflammation (costochondritis) or vitamin D deficiency. For this reason, I would recommend performing some tests:
- Complete blood count, PCR, ESR
- Vitamin D plasma levels
- Calcium and potassium plasma levels

You should discuss with your doctor on the above tests!

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Ilir Sharka, Cardiologist
