What Does A Dry Patch Of Skin On The Arm Indicate?

I have a dry pink patch of skin on my arm with white dry patch on top of it if I prick it with my fingernail it hurts really bad sends a sharp pain down my hand the lower arm it is not very big very small what could it be that can hurt that much ? If you don t mess with it it never hurts . It stays the same size have had it about 4-5 years What could it be ? I am 72 fair complexion look very good for my age very active . Email is YYYY@YYYY

Hi,
It's difficult to say for sure about skin problems with out seeing it.However it sounds like psoriasis patch that is of it has whitish scaling .Another possibility would be eczema .Howe'ver both of the above problem waxes and wanes so if it is persistent then these are unlikely.
If for 5 years I would advise to show it to a dermatologist for confirm diagnosis as some times it maybe serious .
