What Does A Flat Lump On The Sternum Indicate?

I have a soft flattish lump just off center to the right of the sternum. It is black and blue and seems to be getting larger, as is the black & blue area. I do not remember bruising my cheast. There is a slight pain when pressing it just like the area was bruised. Could this be serious?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

It could be a hematoma. Hematomas are blood collection and characteristically changes the colour as you described. We have to rule out possibilities also.

As of now consult a general surgeon and plan for a CT thorax to get a better clinical picture.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Shinas Hussain, General & Family Physician
