What Does A Hanging White Skin On The Tongue Indicate?

On the tip of my tongue i have what i thought was a lie bump but it has now grown into a hanging piece of white skin resembling a hangnail. I have had this on my tongue for 3 months now and its really beginning to concern me. Should I be concerned? What could this be?

Hi..
Can understand your concern..

As per your complain a small piece of hanging skin on the tip of the tongue can be due to trauma by a sharp tooth,or due to fungal infection,it can also be an enlarged or elongated papilla which contains taste buds, tongue bite during chewing and speaking can also be a cause..

It can also be a wart type growth which appears to you as a sking tag and can be due to Human Papilloma Virus infection..

You can consult an oral surgeon and get evaluated and the small skin tag can be removes surgically..

In case of a wart antiviral treatment will help.

Hope this information helps..
