Hello,
Your wife is suffering from a hard lump on the butt cheeks. She has history of
breast cancer. It may be indicative of boil,
carbuncle or
furuncle. The infection may be caused by a hair follicle that has a small collection of pus (
abscess) under the skin. You have not informed if its painful and filled with pus. Abscess are larger and deeper than boils and may need to be incised and drained.
You are suggested to get your wife clinically examined by a GP. She may be asked to get few blood tests and imaging tests done to rule out any malignancy. If cyst is detected then it may need to be removed surgically. At time, ingrown hair can also present with such symptoms. It is commonly treated with antibiotics,
steroid creams to reduce
redness and swelling.
Antibiotics, anti-inflammatory medications, and painkillers are prescribed after incision,
drainage or surgery to help the wound heal faster. She should take care of her hygiene and do not let the wound get infected as it heals. For better healing she should control her blood sugar levels. Stay away from addictions if any.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
