What Does A Hard, Painful Knot Above The Incision Post Microdisectomy Suggest?

I had a microdisectomy 3 weeks ago on my L4-L5. This morning when I woke up, I have a huge, hard knot that is above my incision. It is very painful to touch and the pain is in my butt and in my leg. The knot is very hard. I m not sure what to do! Thanks for your help in advance.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

The knot which you described in the operated area may be due to infection or a hematoma (blood collection). I will advise you to get it examined by the surgeon. Treatment is easy and there is nothing to worry.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Loveleen Sharma, General & Family Physician
