Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have a rather large mole almost in the center of my back under my bra line. It gets irritated and sometimes feels like a sharp stinging, almost like a huge bee or wasp is stinging me. It also does this in the shower when water hits it. It appears to be darker with red around it from the irritation. Should I be worried?

General & Family Physician, Dr. Priyanka's Response
Hi,
A large mole on the back may indicate several things. It could be a benign mole or it could be a melanoma, which is a type of skin cancer. The fact that it is getting irritated and has a stinging sensation is concerning and could be a sign that it is changing or growing.
It is important to have any new or changing mole evaluated by a healthcare professional, such as a dermatologist. They may perform a biopsy to determine if the mole is cancerous or not. If it is cancerous, early detection and treatment are important for a good outcome.
It is recommended to perform regular self-examinations of your skin and to have a dermatologist examine any concerning moles or spots on your skin. Additionally, protect your skin from the sun by wearing protective clothing and using sunscreen.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Priyanka, General & Family Physician
