What Does A Lump Below The Sternum Along With Extreme Upper Abdominal Pain Indicate?

Lump or mass just below the sternun and slightly to the right. Discovered after having extreme pain in upper abdomen area. Ache was akin to burning and throbbing much like a gallbladder attack. Gallbladder was removed 7 months ago. Feel discomfort in area since the extreme pain subsided.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

If the lump is raised above the skin surface, it could be lipoma, sebaceous cyst or else.

Internal lump should be evaluated with an ultrasound for post operative inflammatory collection, developing hernia or others.

Wish you fine recovery and health.

Regards.
