What Does A Lump Between The Shoulder Blades Indicate?
Hi I have just noticed a lump right beneath the surface of my back. It is about 3/4 inch in diameter. it is right above a vertebra between my shoulder blades. I have an appointment with my Dermatologist in 2 weeks for my annual skin cancer checkup. Is this soon enough. What could this be. It is not painful. I am not sure how long it has been there but it must be within 7 months.
Hello dear. The most common cause of the lump you mentioned is lipoma. It is nothing but an aggregation of fat and formation of cyst. If you visit a surgeon he/she may suggest tests like FNAC/ biopsy to diagnose the condition. A simple surgical removal will take care of it. After removal it will be sent to pathology lab to see if there is any signs of malignancy.
If it was painful we could have thought it might be folliculitis and subsequent cyst. But since its not painful it cannot be follliculitis.
Kindly visit a surgeon or dermatologist at the earliest possible. Its not an emergency but still in any case if it is possible for you to get an appointment with the doctor earlier than 2 weeks its well and good.
Hope i have answered your question. Feel free to contact me if you have any more questions. I ll be glad to help you. All the best With warm regards Dr Sanjay Kini
