What Does A Lump On The Chest Indicate?

I have a bump or lump right in the center of my chest. I have had it for a year or so. I have popped it like a zit in the past. Seems to have gotten bigger recently. It is like a hard marble under my skin. It does not really have a head although white stringing stuff does come out at times. Nothing coming out the last couple days. It is hard and kind of sore so I think maybe I have just irritated it. What do you think it is?
