What Does A Lump On The Side Of The Skull Indicate?

I have a lump on the side of my skull, two inches above my ear and halfway between my hairline in front and the back of my head. It feels like bone and I have had it at least 25 years ( I am 69). It has never bothered me, but I recently went to a PA at a dermatologist and she wanted me to have it x-rayed to see if it is bone cancer. I am very much against unnecessary x-rays and don t see how it could be a problem. I may have had it longer than 25 years but just noticed it then. What do you think?

Hello,

The fact that you have this lump for a long time and it has not been problematic indicates that it is a benign lump. So, you should not be worried about it. Anyway, to understand the nature of this lump an X-ray is necessary. The radiation of the X-ray is minimal.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
