What Does A Lump On The Wrist Indicate?

A lump appeared just above my wrist joint and was diagnosed as a ganglion, but that evening the redness around the lump spread and the lump was hot to the touch. The hand was very sore even without movement. Can a ganglion cause such pain and be red and hot to the touch?

Hi and welcome to Healthcaremagic. Thank you for your query.

Yes, it may be caused by ganglion cyst which may become inflamed as in your case and these signs may ocur. It is important to put ice, res and take ibuprofen and if there is progression of redness it would be good to have antibiotic course for 7 days. Also, when inflamation subside it is recommendable to hve this ganglioma removed since it can be easily surgically removed under local anesthesia.

Then it there are doubts about origin it can be sent to the patohistologic analysis.
