What Does A Painful And Swollen Lymph Node In The Armpit Indicate?

i have a swollen lymph node in my armpit that sometimes hurts. Should i consult a doctor? i can physically see and touch the lump and i dont know what it means or what to do about it. it doesnt hurt most of the times, only when i put it in a certain position...

Thanks for asking. I understand your concern.
Lymph nodes swelling in an arm pit can be due to some infection, inflammation in thin chest wall, breast, hand , hair root infections in axila & upper abdominal wall above umbilicus.
A lump in breasts on either sides can cause such enlarged glands & need to be examined carefully.
Such a lymphnode needs careful examination by a doctor... followed by specific treatment ( antibiotic, anti inflammatory medicines) of the basic cause.
