What Does A Painful Bump On The Head Indicate?

I have a bump on my head that has been there for years, like 20 or so and over the last couple years I have noticed it getting larger…it is on the back of my head, in my hair, so not noticeable at all, I cannot see it. Just recently it has started to have soreness to it. It does move around if I push on it…not rock hard but hard.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Very likely you are having a dermoid cyst, which is a skin cyst filled with fat. It is a very common finding and not dangerous. Sometimes the cyst may be irritated and may be tender.
You will need to have it checked with your doctor to confirm the diagnosis and possibly the doctor may remove it or drain it.

I hope this answers your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Antoneta Zotaj, General & Family Physician
