What Does A Painful Lump In The Ribs On The Left Side Indicate?

I was boxing and got punched in my left ribs, for 2 weeks it hurt getting up out of bed and would hurt when I cough and spoke, I iced it and took pain medicine- Advil. Now that pain is almost gone how still hurts a little..... now my left back behind the rib area hurts a lot. Feels like a HUGE knot that won t go away, especially when I lay on my back , what can this be?

hi sir,the measures you had taken for rib bruise are very appropriate.i'm impressed with your scientific approach.you havent mentioned about any investigations.i usually suggest my patients to undergo an x-ray AP and PA views in order to rule out bony, lung and soft tissue injuries.the huge knot like mass in your back may be:
1)a bruised muscle
2)a pocket of pleural effusion(lung pathology).
3)any soft tissue masses.
you can have the same pain medication for your back.if the pain doesnt subside in 4-5 days or other symptoms like fever, bowel and urinary disturbances occur, please go for a physician consultation.hope my explanation clears your doubts.any further queries are always welcome with pleasure.thank you.take care.bye.
