Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I took my first dose of Fosamax last Sunday, Sept 25. Friday evening, I was using an electric sander and noticed that I felt like I had a lump of dust or something in my throat but it passed when I drank water. Saturday evening, after dinner and a cocktail, I noticed that my throat hurt when I swallowed. I also have a spot slightly right of center of my neck that is sensitive to touch, right at the base of my throat. The sensitivity on both the outside and inside of my throat concerns me. I seem to be breathing okay, and I can take deep breaths when sitting. Lying on my side, I felt pressure in the throat. Can I wait until Monday to see my doctor?
It could be pharyngitis or tonsillitis. As of now you can consult a general practitioner and start a short course of antibiotics preferably Amoxiclav. Do warm saline gargle also.
You can also take an antihistamine like cetrezine for symptomatic relief. If symptoms persist better to consult an ENT specialist and get evaluated.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Shinas Hussain, General & Family Physician
