What Does A Painful Lump On The Left Side Of The Neck Indicate?

There is a small lump on the left side of my neck and when I am on my side it feels like it slides towards my throat and it is painful to swallow making it difficult to sleep. The doctor at an urgent care facility said it was the lump between my carotid arteries and not to press it because of my heart. What can I do until I get another appointment?

Hi, I had gone through your question and understand your concerns.
This is almost for sure just a swollen lymph node which is commonly found at this area and usually isnt indicating any serious issue. If there is rapid growth, redness, pus secretion or pain then further diagnostic tests may be required that include neck ultrasound and and needle biopsy if necessary. Lymph nide may be swollen as a reaction to any infection in body recent or previous. Other causes include lipoma or ateroma but this is less possible. You hsould not press it to hard since it may affect some heart rythm, this is true.

Hope this answers your question. If you have additional questions or follow up questions then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your questions.

Wishing you good health.
