What Does A Painless Lump Around The Anus Indicate?

Hello, I ve recently noticed a small, painless lump on my anus. Could this just be a hemorrhoid? I m quite the hypochondriac so upon discovering it my mind immediately began to race. It s been there for a good while at this point but causes me no pain whatsoever.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Albeit short and specific. To recapitulate: Male/52

- hard pea sized lump
- slightly painful
- near anus
- history of haemorrhoids
- wants to know whether to be worried?

If the lump is at the anal verge, this may be a small infected cyst or a prolapsed haemorrhoid that has thrombosed. If this is away from the anal verge, it may be a small boil.

Worry is to get the most proper diagnosis which is possible by clinical examination, per-rectal digital examination, and ano-proctoscopy, preferably by a General Surgeon.

Correct diagnosis alone gives the proper direction for proper treatment.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Ivan R. Rommstein, General Surgeon
