Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Does A Persistent Upper Abdominal Pain Indicate?
I have had upper stomach pain for about five weeks. I was visiting CA and went to the ER there. They did an ultrasound, blood work and EKG. They thought it might be an ulcer. I went on a bland diet. Then went to my Aunt s doctor who deep a deep tissue scan and found nothing. I came back to Ohio and still had pain and am tired all the time, not normal for me. I just had scans last week with the radioactive drink and stuff. The report came out pretty good except it said possible tortuous mildly dilated ducts They have ordered an MRI of just my pancreas now. I m seeing another doctor on Tuesday to see about getting a scope to take a look. I have no family history of this and don t drink at all. What are common causes of this and what else can I be doing? Is a bland diet help the panaceas rest? Thanks, Corky
The following are few causes of upper abdominal pain: 1) Acute gastritis 2) Gastroesophageal reflux 3) Hiatal hernia 4) Gall stones 5) Pancreatitis 6) Irritable bowel syndrome 7) Strained abdominal muscle 8) Mesenteric lymphadenitis 9) Ulcerative colitis 10) Hepatitis
You are already under medical supervision and had ultrasound imaging. Upper gastrointestinal endoscopy is the next option and you have already scheduled an appointment for that as per your question. In my opinion, it might be your stomach or pancreas. Taking bland food helps with reducing gastric irritation and also inflammation of pancreas.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
