What Does A Rash On The Hands And Knees Indicate?

Hi, I m sorry to ask online, but it s Easter weekend and I m hoping to avoid having to go to an after hours clinic. I discovered a rash yesterday on my limbs (hands, wrist, and forearms), then last night on my right knee, then this morning noticed it on my feet. It is kind of like a heat rash and reminds me of a scarlet fever rash that my oldest son gets when he has had strep. We have had strep run through the house a few times this fall/early spring and most recently about two weeks ago, with my oldest son having a scarlet fever rash. I ve had absolutely no other symptoms (i.e. sore throat, fever, etc) until last night and a little this afternoon of feeling a little off (stomach slightly tight and a slight headache) and a little achy but no fever. In fact, my temp has been around 97.5. I hate to assume it s scarlet fever rash, but heat rash doesn t really fit either. I ve taken steps at home to relieve the itchy symptoms of the rash. Should I give it a day or so to see what happens or plan to be seen at an after hours clinic?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Your symptoms seem to be related to scarlet fever.

It is a bacterial infection that usually has a sore throat and fever.

I would suggest you use anti-inflammatory medication such as Ibuprofen.

I also suggest you take prescribed antibiotics and drink liquids.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
