Incomplete data like liver function tests and other serological tests for
hepatitis B virus, etc...???
Test showing Reactive HBsAg is suggestive of acute or
chronic hepatitis B virus infection.
The presence of HBsAg indicates that the blood and body fluids of the infected individual are highly contagious.
I advise you to consult your physician for further evaluation like certain lab tests including liver function tests, anti-HBS, HBeAg, IgM to HBcAg, etc.
to differentiate between acute or chronic infection.
You should also inform the
blood bank officials about this result immediately.
There's no role of oral anti-HBV drugs at this stage.
However, you have to repeat the serological tests along with liver function tests after 6 months.
The absence of IgM anti-HBc or the persistence of HBsAg for 6 months along with the presence of HBeAg, reactive HBV DNA & Total Anti-HBc indicates chronic HBV infection.
In such a case you may be evaluated by specialist experienced in the management of chronic hepatitis B infection.
Currently, Pegylated
Interferon alfa (PEG-IFN-a), Entecavir (ETV), &
tenofovir are the first-line agents in the treatment of chronic hepatitis B disease.
Hope these answers your query.
Wishing you best of your health.
Take care
